国際教育・協力センター長のメッセージ
皆さんは日頃の生活を通じて世界というものをどのように見ていますか？
ニュース映像から見える世界、SNS から見える世界、海外映画から見える世界、好きなスポーツ選手やアーティストを追いながら見えてくる世界など、皆さんの日常にはさまざまな “世界への窓” が開かれているでしょう。 国際情勢は、 今この瞬間もめざましいスピードで変化し続けています。インターネットが発達し、世界のビジネス、 政治、 文化がリアルタイムでつながる時代において、大学はどのような役割を担っていかなければならないでしょうか。
それは世界を “窓” から眺めるだけでなく、皆さん自身の手で “ドア” を開けて外に踏み出していく機会を用意することだ、と私たちは考えています。
関西学院大学は、1889 年に米国人宣教師 W・R・ランバスが創立した当初から国際教育を重視し、創造的かつ有能な「世界市民」を多く育成してきました。第４代院長 C・J・L・ベーツが提唱した“Mastery for Service”というスクールモットーは、まさに世界への奉仕のために練達に励む場を用意するという、私たち国際教育・協力センター（CIEC）の使命を表しています。
そうした取り組みの過程で、本学は 2014 年度に文部科学省「スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業 （SGU）」に採択され、 10 年間の事業期間中には、 協定に基づく海外派遣学生数で日本一（2018・2022・2023年度実績）を達成しました。現在も派遣・受入の両面に重点を置きながら、 世界各国・地域における協定校の拡充や、 多彩な留学プログラムの充実に力を入れています。また「内なる国際化」 の推進に向けて、 海外からの留学生とキャンパスで共に学ぶ融合プログラムも数多く提供しています。
このようなプログラムに参加した学生たちはみな、多様な言語 ・ 文化に触れる経験を通してグローバルな視野を身につけ、異なる価値観を尊重する 「世界市民」へとめざましい成長を遂げていきます。 そうした皆さんの成長をサポートし、 着実に一歩また一歩と前に進んでいく時代に貢献できることこそが、私たちの何よりの喜びです。
さあ、皆さんも “ドア” を開けて、世界へと足を踏み出してみませんか？

Message from the Director of the Center for International Education and Cooperation
How do you see the world through your everyday life?
There are many “windows to the world” in your daily life: the world you see in the news, the world you see on social networking sites, the world you see in foreign films, the world you see through your favorite athletes and artists, and so on. The global situation is changing at a remarkable speed even at this very moment. In an age where the internet has developed and the world's businesses, politics and cultures are connected in real time, what role must universities play?
We believe that it is not just about looking at the world through a “window”, but also about providing opportunities for you to open the “door” yourself and step outside.
From its founding in 1889 by American missionary W. R. Lambuth, Kwansei Gakuin University has placed an emphasis on international education and fostered many creative and capable “global citizens”. The school motto, “Mastery for Service”, proposed by the fourth president C. J. L. Bates, expresses the mission of the Center for International Education and Cooperation (CIEC) to provide a place where students can learn to serve the world.
As a result of these efforts, in 2014 our university was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's “Top Global University Project (TGU)” for a period of 10 years , during which KGU achieved the largest number of students sent abroad based on partnership agreements (AY 2018, AY 2022, and AY 2023 results) in Japan. We are currently focusing on expanding our partner universities in countries and regions around the world and enhancing our diverse study abroad programs, while continuing to focus on sending and receiving students.
In addition, we offer a number of fusion programs where students from overseas and Japan study together on campus, in order to promote “internationalization at home”.
Students who participate in these programs all acquire a global perspective through their experience of coming into contact with diverse languages and cultures, and make remarkable progress towards becoming “global citizens” who respect different values. It is our greatest pleasure to support your growth and contribute to these times of progression.
